The wires, cords and electrical components that are the foundation of the trade can trip up even the most fleet-footed of electricians. The Weller Pyropen, a cordless solderer, aims to solve this hazard of the job. “The Weller Pyropen is one of the best portable soldering irons out there,” says Adam Savage, contributor to Kevin Kelly’s Cool Tools. “I like them because I get almost an hour and half of heat, and I can move around — no cords.” Priced at $125, the solderer uses butane to heat up and reaches full heat in 30 seconds (faster than an electric solderer, says Savage). Even when his regular soldering station is on hand, Savage finds himself reaching for the Weller. “I just find it easier,” he says.
